INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ATTORNEY

RAMON URTEAGA

Ramón is an attorney at law and patent attorney. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from The City College of New York, a Masters in Business Administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio and a law degree from Salmon Chase College of Law, at Northern Kentucky University – having earned all three degrees with honors. He is admitted to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office, the state courts of Ohio and Pennsylvania, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Prior to becoming an attorney,  Ramón spent 12 years as a product and process development engineer with an Ohio-based multinational consumer products giant.

Ramón has almost two decades of experience in the Intellectual Property (“IP”) world. Ramón began his law career at a large boutique firm in Cincinnati (Ohio), where he developed a passion for IP, and where he worked for five years.  He then took that experience into an in-house IP role with a Sweden-based multinational company with a diverse portfolio of consumer, medical, and business-to-business hygiene products and solutions, having co-led an in-house team that secured a landmark victory in the area of patent law before the United States Supreme Court.  In that role, Ramón had responsibility for all IP not only in the U.S., but also throughout the rest of North America, Central America, and South America.

Ramón’s passion for IP led him to start his own private practice, primarily assisting small businesses and entrepreneurs secure and defend their intellectual property assets as well as in other non-IP matters.  That practice has now become a full-time endeavor, known as The PatentXL Law Firm; a name derived from Ramón’s passion for patents and for the “XLent” quality and level of service provided to the firm’s clients.

Ramón is a native of Peru, having lived there until his teenage years, and loves his adoptive country – the United States, while maintaining much of his original culture in his blood and daily life.  Ramón is fully bilingual (English and Spanish) and lives with his family in Merion Station, a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
